Online Eating and Drinking Guide
Restaurants – Bars & Clubs – Food Shops
Role: Project lead, content design, web coordination, information architecture, search optimization, content editing, research, fact checking, journalism
The Toronto Life online eating and drinking guide consists of more than 1500 restaurant, food shop, and bars & clubs listings. As the listings database editor, I helped redesign and relaunch three databases, as well as coordinated the expansion of the online restaurant guide, increasing the initial 400 business listings to just over 1000.
Restaurant Guide
By combining content from the 2013 print edition with original research collected to expand , every webpage was updated to add important information such as:
- restaurant contact info
- links to the business’ website and social media accounts
- whether the establishment is wheelchair accessible
- takes reservations
- offers delivery
- offers free wi-fi
This enabled us to create more search filters and explore new business models like paid search and digital advertising.
Food Shops Guide
Similar to the restaurant listings, food shop listings were redone to feature information about:
- payment methods
- store specialities
- online shopping
Bars & Clubs Guide
The bars and clubs guide featured details on whether a business had such things as:
- drink specials
- cover charges
- kitchen that is opened late
